About the Race
your pace...your place...YOUR race!
Nearly 50 years ago, Karl Minor and his friends pioneered what would become a local running institution. His morning runs would consist of the same route – 10k of hilly roads through Rockdale and Joliet, IL. That route would eventually become the Rockdale Ramblin’ Run, hosted by the Joliet Park District for many years. Known as the “Toughest 10k in the Midwest”, the race tested runners with inclines from the first turn (really? already?) to the infamous “Morgan Hill” to the deceiving final stretch (it didn’t look that far!). While the race no longer occurs, the route continues to be a favorite among local runners looking for a challenge. In honor of that challenge, run3 presents the Hill Yeah! Virtual 10k.
The Hill Yeah! Virtual 10k can be run any time between April 1 - May 15 in the location of your choosing (ie - outside, inside, track, treadmill). Once completed, times can be submitted here. As homage to the Rockdale Ramblin' Run, runners (or walkers!) are encouraged to incorporate hills into their route. These can be on the road, a set of stairs or the incline setting on a treadmill.
Hill Yeah! Virtual 10k registration is $25 and includes a custom hoodie and custom medal. Runners may pick up their hoodie and medal in person or choose the shipping add-on at checkout. Packet pickup will be Saturday, May 16 from 9a-3p at Inwood Athletic Club (3000 W Jefferson, Joliet). This will be a curbside packet pickup; please check your email and social media for procedures. Shipping is $10 flat fee (US only); packets will be sent in early May.
Registration deadline is Thursday, April 30. Registration is limited to 250 runners.
The Hill Yeah! Virtual 10k is the first race in the 2020 run3 series. Register for all three Joliet Park District races to receive free custom run3 swag. Click here for more information on run3.
What the heck is a virtual race?
Simply put, a virtual race is run (or walked!) on your own time in the location of your choosing. Once you register for the Hill Yeah! Virtual 10k, you will have from April 1 – May 15 to complete your run (or walk) and submit your time. You can choose to do your run (or walk) ANYwhere - inside or outside, on a treadmill or on a track.
How do I submit my time? How do you know I’m being honest?
Beginning on April 1, times for registered runners may be submitted here. Runners are on the honor system for time submission.
